How To Create A Unique Niche Of One In 3 Simple Steps
What most creators don't tell you
“Earn with your mind, not your time.”
“The most profitable niche is you.”
“Productize yourself.”
I bet you’ve heard all of these.
I mean, Money Twitter is full of these quotes. But I’ve never seen any creators showing how to apply them.
As a result, people are making 1 big mistake:
They’re trying to put themselves into a box. They think they need to choose only 1 hyper-specific topic to position themselves as an authority.
But this model is kinda old & also limiting for multiple reasons:
you won’t be the most respected figure in an already existing niche
you’re going to face too much competition
you won’t be able to pursue whatever you’re the most interested in at that time (you’ll need to stick to that 1 topic, otherwise you’d lose authority)
When you study your favorite creators, you notice 1 pattern:
They've all turned themselves into a niche itself.
What does it mean “turn yourself into a niche?”
It means productizing the journey toward your goals.
“You’re not helping.”
*Sigh.*
Let me put it this way:
You take a goal, pursue it, encounter roadblocks, solve them & share your unique solutions via content & products.
This is the authentic way that’s ultimately going to attract people on the same path as you & will help you build a cult-like following.
And leads to
building a category of one (where you are the most respected authority)
eliminating all competition
getting enough flexibility to write about any topic you want (because people will follow you for your unique perspective, not for the topic)
Sounds sweet, huh?
I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t accomplish all of that this year.
So…*drum roll*
Let me introduce to you my 3-step framework for turning yourself into a niche where you’ll be the only king/queen:
Step 1 - Choose a goal 🎯
What are you pursuing?
What are you leading people towards?
What is the benefit of achieving that?
This is what attracts the right followers - because people want to follow people who are on a similar path & can show them the way.
All clarity begins with realizing where are you going.
Want an example?
Here it is:
My goal is creating a unique category of one, becoming a thought-leader in the field & using that to build a one-person business (kinda meta, I know).
My mission is to lead people towards becoming a creator of value & leverage (without posting generic platitudes).
And my why behind that?
My love is the happiest when I’m fully in control of my life and future. And creating a business based on improving myself in the things I love doing sounds like a hella good way of taking control of my life and future.
See?
This is my North Star - 99% is going to be based around that.
“But what if I don’t know what’s my goal?”
You’ll figure out on the way.
If you’re totally unsure, you can start by setting anti-vision.
Take a notebook and write down how you do not want your life to look like.
It’s much easier to work from there.
Step 2 - Document your journey 📋
On the journey you’ll enter roadblocks.
Your job is to document them & become obsessed with solving them (more on that in a second).
Problems are the keystone of your content.
Because problems make people pay attention.
If you capture their attention with a problem & then present a unique solution, then you’re bound to become their favorite creator.
Whenever you enter a roadblock, take a note of it.
How does it feel?
How is it affecting you?
What transformation do you expect after solving it?
This will help you massively later when you’ll be writing your posts.
Example:
What is one of the roadblocks I’ve entered on my journey?
Wanting to start writing about a new topic, but not being able to do that because my authority is established in writing.
Alrighty - you have a goal, you are on the journey, and you have encountered problems.
But now we’re getting into the sweetest part:
How to differentiate yourself from anyone else.
Step 3 - Use your interests to solve the problem 🤺
It’s crazy how it works - but everything is connected.
If you break down any topic far enough, you realize that it relates to any other topic under the sun.
So what can you do with that?
You can take your problem, and you can take one of your interests, and use it to solve the problem.
Example:
How can I solve my problem introduced in the previous steps?
One of my interests right now is digital leverage & one-person business model, so I can research what my favorite creators have to say about it & distill the most exciting concepts into this edition.
Or maybe if the problem was that I was afraid to switch niches because I was afraid what other people are thinking, spirituality could help me with that.
Everything is connected - and that’s your biggest advantage.
You can pursue your curiosity, use it to solve your problems, share it in public, and attract a cult-like following. Because people love people with similar problems & similar interests.
And the best thing is:
You’ll be the only one - because there won’t ever be a person with the same thought process as you.
This is how you build your specific knowledge (a concept from Naval):
Knowledge only you have, knowledge that can be learned, but cannot be taught.
Now hold on here:
Don't expect to create your unique with just 1 post.
It takes months/years to build a solid library you’ll be known for.
But it’s damn worth it.
So will you get to work this year?
To sum it up:
Keep pursuing your goals
Keep documenting your journey
Keep pursuing your curiosity
Keep finding creative solutions to those problems
Keep sharing them
